There are vaious records of our Bearden Families in the Court House in Camden, Arkansas. Examples: The STock Bond Book of Jefferson Township, page 291 - On November 30, 1880 Francis Melzie Bearden registered his cattle ear mark and brand. On April 6, 1880 Book G-106 and December 14, 1883 Book I-167 are other records. We don't know why Francis Melzie sold his land and moved to Texas. He did settle near his grandmother's relatives, the WARD family who lived there.

Melzie married Florence Blankenship. The ceremony was performed by Burnell Cox, Minister of the Gospel and witnessed by J. H. Apelhite. The marriage is recorded in Bonham, Texas.

It is believed by some that W. B. Blankenship (Florence's father) was a brother of Elvira Ann above but no proof of this heresay has been found. Florence's parents W. B. and Eliza had at least ten children, all born in Arkansas. They are listed in the 1880 Ouachita County Census as follows; James B. Blankenship 24, Maragaret A. 18, Andrew J. 17, Florence Virginia 14; Charles B. 13; Norris C. 7; Laura L. 6; Frncis D. 5; John H. 3; and Edward D. 6/12. Also listed is a mary Bearden Moses 21; her two children - Joel A. Moses 3; and Mary Moses 10 months.

In 1884 Melzie sold his land in Arkansas. That year he and Florence Virginia moved by train from Ouachita County, Arkansas to Randolph, Texas. melzie was a farmer. He and Florence were members of the Church of Christ. They had eleven children - nine lived to adulthood and all were born in Randolph, Texas.

Melzie's youngest son Opal said his father was so poor he could not afford to own two wagons and one wagon was not able to hold all the family. When they went to church or visited, some of the children had to run along behind the wagon. Of the eleven children, Johnny and Sally died in early childhood of "Summer Complaint" a very serious childhood disease usually fatal in those days. The children are listed in order to the best of our knowledge. All dates were furnished in numbers and in some cases the months and days may be reversed.[combined.ftw]
